Tommy Whiteside Memorial Regatta

If you wanted wind, you had it.  If you wanted cool, you had it.  If you wanted a good party and a huge raffle, well you had that too.  A little rain Saturday did not dampen the good times, but did keep a few racers on the beach.  19 boats registered in 4 classes.  Winds 10-25 on Saturday with light rain at the beginning , but tapered off before the second start.  A squall line came thru in between races that brought in a steady 19 with gust to 25. We got off 3 races Saturday despite the adverse conditions.  The ladies of SEACATS provided us a huge spaghetti dinner that warmed our souls, and got us back to life for the party.  Our sponsors came through again with so much stuff, the  raffle  seemed to go on forever.  Our fellow sailor Nathan Palmer and his band "Four on the Floor" entertained us into the night, probably too late for the early start planned for Sunday.  The winds howled all night, and did not ease off when the sun came up.   Sunday was cold, but steady 17 kt winds that allowed us to get off 2 races, for a total of 5 races.
Our goal for this regatta was to have some good racing, a good party, and raise money for the Tommy Whiteside Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Midlands Marine Institute.  We raised $1000.00 dollars and believe all had a good time.  We thank division 9 and all our sponsors, and hope everyone can come out again next year.

P.S. One Lap of Lake Murray is our next event, September 14th.  Long distance around Lake Murray, and as always a huge party.
